Listi: The Dubai Business Directory Built for How Dubai Actually Buys

Dubai runs on recommendations, not search results. Listi is a Dubai business directory built around that — every listing carries a referral reward, and every referrer is LinkedIn-verified.

Listi: The Dubai Business Directory Built for How Dubai Actually Buys

A Dubai business directory has a credibility problem, and everybody in Dubai already knows it. Type any service plus "Dubai" into a search engine and you will find page after page of listing sites stuffed with dead phone numbers, businesses that closed in 2019, and paid placements dressed up as recommendations. The listings are abundant and nearly worthless, because abundance was the product.

Dubai does not actually buy that way. In a city where a significant share of the working population arrived within the last decade, trust does not come from a search ranking — it comes from a person. You find an accountant because a founder in your industry used one. You find a PRO service agent because someone in your building vouched for them. You find a salon, a dentist, a web developer, a corporate lawyer the same way: somebody you know says "use these people, they were good."

Listi is built on that mechanic rather than against it. It is a directory, but the unit of value is not the listing — it is the referral, and the person making it.

What makes a directory listing worth anything

Two things determine whether a directory is useful: whether the businesses in it are real, and whether the people recommending them have anything at stake.

On the first point, Listi is restricted to businesses holding a valid trade licence issued in Dubai. Not the UAE broadly — Dubai. Every listing is reviewed before it goes live, and businesses in regulated sectors have to show the relevant authorisation: RERA registration for real estate, Ministry of Economy registration for accounting, audit and tax work, Dubai Health Authority licensing for healthcare, Dubai Legal Affairs Department for legal practice. A generic commercial licence does not qualify a business to list as a regulated practitioner.

That is a slower way to grow a directory. It is also the only version of a directory that a referrer can put their name against, which matters because of the second point.

The referrer is the product

Every referrer on Listi verifies their identity through LinkedIn before they can contact a single business. There is no anonymous browsing-then-messaging. The verification is one-time and read-only — Listi reads a name and an email to confirm a real professional is behind the account, and never posts anything on anyone's behalf.

This is the part of the model that most directories skip, and it changes the economics for a listed business. An enquiry on Listi is not a form fill from an unknown IP address. It comes from a named UAE professional who has attached their LinkedIn identity to the recommendation they are about to make. If the referral is poor, that is visible. Reputation is on the line in a way it never is with a lead-generation form.

It also changes who bothers to participate. The verification requirement filters out the people who would otherwise mass-message every business in a category. What is left is smaller and considerably more useful.

Rewards are set by the business, and paid by the business

Each listing carries a reward offer — what the business will pay someone for a referral that converts. A property consultancy might offer a percentage of commission. An accounting firm might offer a share of an annual package. A salon might offer a flat amount per new client. The business decides the type and the value, and referrers see it on the public listing page before they make an introduction.

Listi takes zero commission on any of it. The full reward goes from the business to the referrer, paid directly between them. Listi does not process referral payments, does not hold funds in escrow, and does not take a cut.

That arrangement is worth stating plainly because it cuts both ways, and Listi's terms say so in writing. Because Listi is not in the payment path, it also cannot guarantee that a reward is paid, cannot track whether a referral converted, and cannot adjudicate a dispute about either. Referrers accept this explicitly when they join — it is a risk acknowledgement, not fine print. The upside is that no platform fee comes out of the reward, and the business's commercial relationship with the referrer stays between the two of them. The downside is that both sides are relying on each other's good faith, and a business that does not pay will find referrers stop sending it clients.

What listing on Listi actually involves

Three tiers, all monthly or annual, all cancellable at any time from the dashboard with no cancellation fee:

Generic Listing — AED 29 a month. A standard directory listing: your profile, up to three services and a tagline, a Refer Now button on your public page, and up to twenty messages a month from referrers. Blog posts are available pay-as-you-go. This is the entry point for a business that wants to be findable and reachable without extras.

Flexi — AED 48 a month. Adds the things that make a listing work harder: a hero video on your listing page, access to LinkedIn-verified referrer profiles so you can approach them directly rather than waiting, full analytics on views, clicks and conversions, search engine indexing, priority placement in browse results, a verified badge, a gallery, and one free blog post a month.

Growth — AED 99 a month. Adds Top Picks placement at the front of the browse page and the top of your category, a larger blog allowance, and a dedicated account manager.

Annual billing runs at ten months' price on every tier. There is no free business tier for new signups — the old free plan was withdrawn and is closed, retained only for the businesses that already held it.

Why the pricing is deliberately low

AED 29 a month does not fund a sales team, and it is not meant to. The cost of being listed should be low enough that the decision does not need a business case, because the real cost to a business on Listi is the reward it pays on a referral that actually closes. That is the right place for the cost to sit: it is proportional to outcomes, and it only triggers when the business has gained something.

Compare it to the alternatives a Dubai business weighs up. Paid search for competitive service keywords in this market runs into serious money per click, with no verification of who is clicking. Lead-generation agencies sell the same enquiry to several competitors. Directory sites charge for placement and deliver traffic without intent. Against those, a monthly fee in the region of a couple of coffees plus a performance-based reward is a different shape of spend entirely.

What Listi does not promise

This is the part most platforms leave out, so it is worth being direct about.

Listi does not guarantee any specific number of views, clicks, messages or referral introductions for any listing on any plan. That is written into the terms, and it is written there because the alternative — quoting a lead figure to close a signup — is how directories end up with businesses who paid for a forecast and received nothing.

Listi is also early. The referrer network is being grown deliberately rather than fast, precisely because the LinkedIn verification requirement makes it impossible to inflate the numbers with sign-ups that mean nothing. A business listing today is joining something that is still being built, with the advantages and the uncertainty that implies. Any Dubai business directory telling you otherwise about its own stage is probably telling you something else that is not true either.

Who it suits

Listi works best for Dubai businesses with a few specific characteristics. The service should be one people ask friends about — professional services, property, healthcare, beauty, education, trades, agencies. The transaction value should be high enough that a referral reward makes sense; a reward on a AED 50 sale is not worth anyone's time. And the business should be able to handle an enquiry properly when it arrives, because a verified referrer who sends a client to a business that does not respond will not send another.

If that describes your business, the practical next step is short: sign up with your business email, pick a tier, set a reward that a professional would consider worth an introduction, and submit your listing for review. If it does not, a directory is probably not your constraint, and no amount of listing will change that.

The longer bet

Dubai's business community is unusually networked and unusually transient at the same time. People move companies, change sectors, and arrive new constantly, which means the informal recommendation network is simultaneously the most trusted channel in the city and the most frequently broken. Every time someone changes job or leaves the country, a chunk of accumulated "who's good at what" disappears.

A directory that captures those recommendations, attaches a verified identity to each one, and gives the recommender a reason to make them, is trying to make that knowledge persist. That is a slower thing to build than a scraped listings database, and considerably more useful if it works.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Listi only for Dubai businesses?+

Yes. Listi operates exclusively for businesses holding a valid trade licence issued in Dubai, UAE. That restriction is deliberate — a directory that accepts everyone becomes impossible for a referrer to trust, and the licence check is what lets us tell a referrer that the businesses they see are real and locally registered.

What does it cost to list a business on Listi?+

There are three tiers: Generic Listing at AED 29 a month for a standard directory listing, Flexi at AED 48 a month which adds video, full analytics, search indexing and direct access to referrer profiles, and Growth at AED 99 a month which adds Top Picks placement and a larger blog allowance. Annual billing is available at ten months' price. You can cancel at any time from your dashboard.

Does Listi take a commission on referrals?+

No. Listi takes zero commission on any referral reward. The business sets the reward, and pays it directly to the referrer. Listi is a directory and listing platform — it is not a payment processor and never sits in the money path between a business and a referrer.

Who can refer a business on Listi?+

Only referrers who have verified their identity through LinkedIn. Every referrer connects a LinkedIn account before they can contact a business, so enquiries come from identifiable UAE professionals rather than anonymous form submissions.

How long does it take to get listed?+

Signing up and building a listing takes a few minutes. Every listing is then reviewed before it goes live, because that review is the whole value of the directory. Businesses in regulated sectors should expect to supply the relevant authorisation — RERA for real estate, Ministry of Economy registration for accounting and tax, DHA for healthcare, and so on.
